2 / Johns Hopkins's approach for the cholera outbreak after the 2015 Nepal Earthquake
Extensive destruction of water and sanitation infrastructure and massive displacement caused a major cholera outbreak in Nepal after the 2015 earthquake in 2016. The disaster revealed long-standing weaknesses in the country's water and sanitation systems.
Johns Hopkins University, along with UNICEF, organized awareness-raising campaigns that educated the public about proper hygiene practices and helped build local capacity to maintain water safety by training the government water suppliers on water disinfection and testing methods.
